Gov. Sherrill updates New Jersey budget report card ahead of FY 2027 budget vote
TRENTON, N.J. — Gov. Mikie Sherrill has updated the state’s Budget Report Card ahead of the Legislature’s final vote on New Jersey’s fiscal year 2027 budget, providing residents with an updated overview of state spending and budget changes.
The update follows votes by the Assembly Budget Committee and the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on the proposed FY 2027 budget. Under the New Jersey Constitution, the budget bill must remain for one full intervening calendar day before a final vote by the full Legislature.
According to the governor’s office, the updated Budget Report Card includes the final proposed $60.74 billion FY 2027 budget total, compares department funding proposed in March with the amounts approved by the legislative committees and provides a link to the Legislature’s budget bill language through the Office of Legislative Services.
“New Jerseyans should be able to easily see how their tax dollars are spent and which programs they are funding – that’s why we created the Report Card. Now, we are updating the Report Card ahead of this year’s budget vote by the full legislature so New Jerseyans have a ‘one stop shop’ to more easily find a user-friendly picture of the budget. This budget is the most fiscally responsible in years, focused squarely on making life more affordable for New Jerseyans across our state, and I look forward to signing it in the coming days,” said Governor Mikie Sherrill.
“The FY2027 Budget makes strategic investments to lower costs for families, strengthen our economy, and deliver high-quality services. The Budget Report Card demonstrates that we are taking the steps necessary to match those investments with greater accountability. This update to the Report Card ahead of the full Legislature’s vote on our budget reflects our commitment to transparency, effective stewardship, and continuous improvement across state government,” said Chief Operating Officer Kellie Doucette.
The New Jersey Report Card is a public website created through Executive Order No. 5, which Sherrill signed on her first day in office. The site is intended to show residents how tax dollars are being spent and what state-funded programs are providing for communities across New Jersey.
State officials said the report card will continue to be updated as additional information becomes available from the Office of Legislative Services and as more details about state programs are added.
The report card previously was updated in May following revisions to the governor’s proposed budget.
