Hackettstown Maifest draws crowds with music, contests and German-inspired festivities

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Hackettstown was filled with live music, German-inspired traditions and family activities Saturday as residents and visitors gathered for the annual Maifest celebration hosted by the Hackettstown Business Improvement District.

The spring festival featured entertainment and specials at businesses throughout town, with crowds attending events ranging from live music performances and contests to children’s activities and food and drink specials.

One of the day’s featured events was a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Team Car Wash on Mountain Avenue. Mayor Jerry DiMaio also participated in a ceremonial barrel tapping at Czig Meister Brewing Co.

Festivalgoers were entertained throughout the day by roaming performances from the Oompah band Peter and the Wolf-Gang, along with live music from multiple performers at participating venues including Czig Meister Brewing Co., Living Spirits Distillery, Man Skirt Brewing and Marley’s Gotham Grill.

The event also included a steinholding competition, beard and mustache contest, best German attire competition and performances by New Jersey CYB Maypole Dancers.

Family-friendly activities included face painting, bracelet making, bubbles for children and a prize wheel, while businesses throughout the downtown district offered themed specials and promotions.

Maifest, modeled after traditional German spring festivals, has become an annual celebration for the Hackettstown business community and attracts visitors from throughout Warren County and neighboring areas.
