Hackettstown Municipal Utilities Authority to begin hydrant flushing April 27
The Hackettstown Municipal Utilities Authority (HMUA) has announced it will begin flushing water mains and fire hydrants throughout the service area beginning Sunday, April 27.
The work will continue over several weeks and is part of routine system maintenance aimed at ensuring clean, clear water and proper hydrant functionality, according to the HMUA.
“This housecleaning is necessary to ensure that the water delivered to you is clear and sparkling and that fire hydrants operate properly in the event of a fire,” the HMUA said.
Flushing will generally take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on scheduled evenings to minimize disruption to residents. However, daytime flushing is scheduled for May 8 and May 9 in specific high-pressure areas of Independence Township and Mount Olive Township.
During flushing in your area, water may appear rusty or discolored temporarily. HMUA advises residents to run cold water until it clears and to check your water before washing clothes—especially whites—during the flushing hours. The best time to wash clothes is anytime on Saturday and Sunday before 10 p.m.
