Hackettstown school resource officer honored with Enrique S. Camarena Award
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — A Hackettstown school resource officer has been selected to receive a statewide award recognizing exceptional commitment to drug awareness and prevention.
School Resource Officer Matt Frauen was chosen as this year’s recipient of the Enrique S. Camarena Award, presented annually by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks through its Drug Awareness Program. The award honors members of the law enforcement community who demonstrate the dedication, integrity and service exemplified by Agent Enrique S. Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was killed in the line of duty in 1985.

According to the Hackettstown Police Department, nominees are recognized for their strong community involvement and efforts to promote a drug-free environment. Nominations begin at the local Elks Lodge and advance to the State Drug Awareness Program chair for final consideration.
“We are incredibly proud to announce that our very own School Resource Officer, Matt Frauen, has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Enrique S. Camarena Award,” the department said in a statement.
Police officials praised Frauen for his work and mentorship at the school he serves. “Officer Frauen’s commitment to our youth, his positive influence in our schools, and his tireless efforts to build a safer, drug-free community truly embody the spirit of this honor,” the department said.
