Hunterdon Central, North Hunterdon wrestlers raise $1,000 for cancer center

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Wrestlers from Hunterdon Central Regional High School and North Hunterdon High School teamed up to support cancer patients during a joint tournament aimed at giving back to the community.

The event, called “Taking Down Cancer,” raised $1,000 for the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center through donations collected at the meet and proceeds from concession stand sales.

Hunterdon Central students also honored those affected by cancer by wearing T-shirts displaying the names of loved ones and friends impacted by a diagnosis.

At the conclusion of the tournament, students from both schools presented a $1,000 check to representatives of the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.

The donation will benefit the center’s Special Needs Fund, which helps ease the financial burden faced by cancer patients and their families during treatment and recovery. The fund supports non-medical expenses such as transportation, food and other essential needs, allowing patients to focus on their recovery.
