Hunterdon County awards economic development grant to Stockton Borough

STOCKTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners has awarded Stockton Borough a $14,630 Economic Development Grant to support the codification of local land use ordinances and make those records fully searchable through the borough’s municipal website.

The grant was approved at the commissioners’ Feb. 3 meeting and is intended to improve public access to zoning and land use information while increasing efficiency and transparency for residents, businesses and visitors.

Commissioner Deputy Director Jeff Kuhl, the board’s liaison to the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, said the project reflects the county’s ongoing commitment to helping municipalities modernize operations.

“The Commissioner Board is pleased to continue assisting our municipal partners with projects that increase efficiency and improve end-user experiences through initiatives such as the digitalization of government records,” Kuhl said.

The Hunterdon County Economic Development Grant Program is funded annually and is available to county municipalities and local nonprofit business associations seeking to advance economic development initiatives. Past recipients have used grant funding to modernize municipal websites, streamline policies and procedures, hire consultants for specialized projects and implement improvements aimed at strengthening local economies.

County officials said the program plays a key role in making Hunterdon County attractive for investment while reinforcing economic development as a shared priority across all county communities.

Commissioner Susan Soloway, co-liaison for economic development, pointed to recent revitalization efforts in Stockton Borough as evidence of its momentum.

“Stockton Borough is undergoing a renaissance with the reopening of the Stockton Inn and Stockton Market, along with the continued presence of the Woolverton Inn,” Soloway said. “The Commissioner Board is proud to partner with Stockton Borough officials as they implement innovative practices, such as making zoning records accessible online, that support long-term economic vitality.”
