Overnight lane closures scheduled Friday on I-287 south for bridge project in Morris County
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Motorists traveling on Interstate 287 southbound in Hanover and Morris Township should expect overnight lane closures Friday as work continues on a bridge replacement project, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, through 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, two southbound lanes will be closed between mileposts 37.6 and 37.2 beneath the Hanover Avenue bridge while crews restripe the roadway, install construction barriers and shift traffic.
At least two travel lanes will remain open overnight.
By 9 a.m. Saturday, all southbound lanes are expected to reopen with traffic shifted to the left toward the median. The right shoulder beneath the Hanover Avenue bridge will remain closed through November 2027 to allow for bridge abutment repairs and other improvements.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays while traveling through the work zone.
The work is part of a $17.5 million federally funded bridge replacement project that will replace the concrete bridge deck on the Hanover Avenue (County Route 650) bridge over Interstate 287 in Hanover and Morris Township.
The project also includes drainage, lighting, signage and fencing improvements, along with new sidewalks and upgraded curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028.
