Hunterdon County Commissioner addresses attendees at Polytech Academy Award Ceremony

LEBANON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren last week addressed the 2024 Hunterdon County Vocational School District (HCVSD) Polytech Academy Award recipients, their guests, and members of the Vocational Board of Education including Superintendent Todd Bonsall at Voorhees High School in Lebanon Township.

“On behalf of my colleagues on the Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners, I extend a congratulations to each of tonight’s award recipients. Your hard work and dedication to your academic studies have not gone unnoticed, and tonight is an opportunity to honor you and your individual achievements,” Van Doren said.

The Academy Awards Ceremony is held annually for students who have completed a 4-year Academy program in one of the following Academies, Biomedical Sciences Academy, Computer Science and Applied Engineering Academy, and Environmental Sustainability and Engineering Academy. This year, 72 graduates received over $950,000 in scholarships to attend a 4-year or 2-year institution, Military Academy, or technical school.

Several of the programs offered at HCVSD also have dual credit options in which students can elect to earn college credit while in high school with institutes such as RVCC, Rutgers University, and Centenary University. A total of 502 college credits were collectively earned by the 2024 Academies graduating class while in high school.

“Each of you know that there are unique opportunities out there for you. You are graduating from a great vocational program, where you have built a strong foundation and gained valuable experiences that will help guide your future. Your final lesson is this, ‘Hard work really does pay off!’ Congratulations Class of 2024. Here’s to a bright and promising future that awaits each and every one of you,” Van Doren said.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker.
