Man charged with DWI after New Year’s Eve hit-and-run crash in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Spring Valley, New York, man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a hit-and-run crash late New Year’s Eve in Mount Olive Township, police said.

Police said officers responded at about 11:26 p.m. Dec. 31 to a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Cassidy Road. A gray Toyota struck an unoccupied parked vehicle and then fled the scene, authorities said.

The suspect vehicle was later located at the intersection of Cassidy Road and Tree Top Road, where officers conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Oscar W. Aluchoquinaloa, 32, of Spring Valley, New York.

During the investigation, police said officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed signs of impairment. Aluchoquinaloa was asked to exit the vehicle for field sobriety testing and was subsequently placed under arrest.

He was transported to police headquarters and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to maintain lane and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Police said Aluchoquinaloa was released to a sober driver pending a court appearance.
