Hunterdon County Commissioner Lanza provides post November General Election update

“Hunterdon County Voter Turnout Over 75%”

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Hunterdon County Commissioner and liaison to the Hunterdon County Clerk and Board of Elections Office, John Lanza recently provided an update on the recent elections in Hunterdon County.

The elections, held on November 5th, saw significant participation from residents, reflecting the community’s strong commitment to civic engagement and democratic processes.

“I would like to extend my praise and thanks to County Clerk Mary Melfi and Elections Administrator Beth Thompson and their respective staff members for their continued commitment to excellence and voter engagement in Hunterdon County. The dedication of our election officials, poll workers, and volunteers ensured that the election process was efficient, transparent, and secure,” Lanza said.

Due to early planning and a cohesive relationship between the Clerk’s office and the Board of Elections, there were little, or no issues experienced during the General Election. The Official Hunterdon County Voter One Stop Information Pamphlet provided Voters with plenty of time and information to plan their method of voting.

Hunterdon County experienced an overall voter turnout of over 75%. The County also saw a record-breaking 24% turnout during the fourth year of implementing 9 days of Early-In-Person Voting in a General Election.

Over 21,000 Vote-by-Mail Ballots were issued by the County Clerk, and over 17,000 ballots were returned accounting for an 83% return rate on Vote-by-Mail Ballots.

The Board of Elections also performed a state-required Audit on Monday, November 18th with a score of 100% further increasing the value of confidence in the county voting system that voters expect and a timely certification of the results on November 20th.

Educating and assisting Hunterdon County voters will continue to be a major focus of the County Clerk and Board of Elections as the county moves into the 2025 Gubernatorial Primary and General Elections.
