Hunterdon County Commissioner Soloway speaks with students about county government at High Bridge Elementary School
HIGH BRIDGE BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Commissioner Susan Soloway recently spent a morning at High Bridge Elementary School, sharing about the interworking’s of county government, with the combined 4th grade classes of Ms. Lynn Hughes and Ms. Michelle Gomez.
Commissioner Soloway’s visit to the school on Wednesday, March 6, began with a presentation highlighting the various responsibilities of county government and included important discussions on topics about, elections, local tourism initiatives, county parks and summer camps, the American Bald Eagle display at Arboretum, food safety after power outages, and the importance of county road directional indicators.
“Hunterdon County is a wonderful place to live, and we are fortunate to have so many great resources and programs, recreational land, and Open Space available to explore and experience as residents. I want to remind each of you that you are never too young to have a voice in local government. Get involved in programs in your community and keep learning so you can be the eyes and ears of the county,” Soloway said.
In honor of Read Across America week, Soloway reminded the students to visit their local libraries and to get their own county library card, so they would always have access to good books. She also mentioned the upcoming ‘New Jersey Makers Day’ event, and invited students and their parents to join in the events on Saturday, March 16th at the three county library locations.
Students had prepared questions for Commissioner Soloway and wanted to learn more about the government buildings in the county, special projects that the Board was currently working on, and how much Open Space currently exists in Hunterdon County.
When asked by a student, what was the hardest part about serving as a County Commissioner Soloway said, “Sometimes my commitments require me to spend time away from family, but I love working as a County Commissioner because I know that I am helping people in our community.”
