Hunterdon County Commissioners attend Musconetcong Watershed Association event in support of Historic Asbury Mill

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Hunterdon County Commissioners Jeff Kuhl and Susan J. Soloway recently attended the 2025 Asbury Mill Dinner, hosted by the Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA), at Hawke Pointe Golf Club in Washington Township.

The event served as a platform to increase public awareness of the Mill and featured dinner, a silent auction, and remarks from MWA staff and board members about the on-going efforts to preserve the Historic Asbury Mill.

Commissioner Kuhl who also serves as the liaison to the Planning & Land Use Department shared, “The Musconetcong Watershed Association plays a vital role in preserving the natural beauty of the area. Their dedication to protecting and restoring the Asbury Mill ensures that future generations can enjoy this historic building as a gathering space for meetings, public tours, and educational space for community members and visitors to enjoy.”

The Historic Asbury Mill forms much of the early industrial character of the Village of Asbury in Franklin Township, Warren County. Since the Mill’s construction as a gristmill along the Musconetcong River between 1863 and 1867, the building has characterized the early industrial might of New Jersey. An early water wheel, and later, a turbine powered the first machines of industry, functioning first as a grist mill and later as a graphite mill.

“This Board is proud to support the work of the Musconetcong Watershed Association and applauds their commitment to environmental stewardship and protection of our local watershed. I am excited to see the Mill reconstruction as it progresses,” Soloway said.

The Musconetcong Watershed Association is dedicated to protecting and improving the quality of the Musconetcong River and its watershed. Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, the MWA works to preserve the natural and cultural resources of the region.

Over the past few years, MWA has received several grants, which have been used to partially fund the Mill restoration. For more information about MWA send an email to: info@musconetcong.org or call: (908) 537-7060.
