Hunterdon County commissioners honor senior librarian Jane Ricketts on retirement

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners formally recognized senior librarian Jane Ricketts during its Dec. 16 meeting, honoring her career and retirement from the Hunterdon County Library system.

Commissioner Director John E. Lanza presented Ricketts with a proclamation acknowledging her years of service and professional contributions to the county.

“Jane’s distinguished career as a librarian reflects her dedication to public service and to the residents of Hunterdon County,” Lanza said. “On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, we thank her for her many years of devoted service and wish her continued happiness and success in retirement.”

Ricketts began her career in librarianship after earning a bachelor’s degree in literature from West Chester State College, now West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in library science from Drexel University. She previously worked as a librarian at Temple University and the Chicago Library before joining Hunterdon County in September 2005 as a part-time Librarian I.

In 2012, Ricketts was appointed to a full-time librarian position, where her responsibilities included assisting patrons, providing readers’ advisory services, planning programs and developing informational materials. She was promoted to senior librarian in 2019, a role in which she provided leadership and oversight to support the effective delivery of library services to the public.

Ricketts was joined at the meeting by her husband, Glen Ricketts, and her supervisor, Nick Ferrelli of Library Services, who offered remarks praising her leadership, professionalism and contributions to the county library system.

Colleagues credited Ricketts with providing “so much guidance” throughout her tenure. Reflecting on her career, Ricketts said she was “most thankful to work in the community where she grew up.”

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher.
