Hunterdon County employees host ‘Strides’ Against Breast Cancer Walk

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Hunterdon County employees came together on Oct. 18, for the annual Strides Against Cancer Walk, demonstrating their commitment to raising awareness and funds to help those currently undergoing treatment, along with survivors, family members and friends of those battling breast cancer.

The event took place at the Route 12 County Complex, where participants wore pink attire and walked in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer.

Deputy Director Susan Soloway attended the walk and shared, “Breast cancer affects so many lives, and it inspiring to see our employees come together to support this important cause. The funds raised today will help the nonprofit organization, ‘Evolve Pink’ in its vital work for patient support and empowering women and men through every step of their breast cancer journey.”

Evolve Pink is headed by Dr. Jennifer Montes, a renowned breast surgeon and advocate, who spoke at the event and shared her appreciation for the community’s support, “Evolve Pink is dedicated to providing comprehensive support services to women affected by breast cancer, including wellness programs, counseling, and educational resources. The generosity of Hunterdon County employees will enable us to expand our programs and reach even more people in need.”

Approximately 70 plus participants joined together in a sea of pink to support the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) fund-raising walk during their lunch break. All donations help the ACS fund more research and provide free programs and services for cancer patients and their families.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in American women, after lung cancer. It is estimated that about 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

“The best way to combat breast cancer is through early detection and education. By raising awareness, funding research, and fostering a community of care, we CAN make strides towards a future without breast cancer,” Commissioner Soloway said.
