Warren County man convicted on aggravated sexual assault, child endangerment charges

BELVIDERE, N.J. (Warren County) — A Warren County jury has found a Hackettstown man guilty on multiple charges stemming from the sexual assault of a child in 2022, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

On Thursday, June 11, a jury convicted Victor M. Torres, 60, of Hackettstown, of three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault by contact and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The trial was presided over by Superior Court Judge Reema Sethi Kareer.

The sexual acts occurred in 2022 when the victim, who was known to Torres, was younger than 13 years old, authorities said.

Torres was remanded to the Warren County Correctional Center pending sentencing, which is tentatively scheduled for July or August.

Torres faces a sentence of 25 years to life in New Jersey State Prison under the Jessica Lunsford Act for each first-degree aggravated sexual assault conviction. He also faces up to 10 years in prison for each second-degree conviction. He will also be subject to Megan’s Law registration requirements and parole supervision for life.
