Hunterdon County Health Department to offer new grant funded Dental Access Program
HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Deputy Director and liaison to the Health Department, Shaun C. Van Doren, recently announced the launch of a new Dental Access Program, which will be offered through the Health Department’s Public Health Nursing Division.
The program is designed to expand access to dental care for underserved populations, including children, individuals with developmental disabilities, seniors, and veterans.
This initiative, made possible through a generous grant from Delta Dental, aims to provide free and low-cost dental services to Hunterdon County residents from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027.
“Dental and oral health play a crucial role in an individual’s overall well-being. This new Dental Access Program is the result of the foresight and hard work of personnel within the Hunterdon County Health Department, who are dedicated to promoting public health in our community,” Van Doren said.
Through this program, the Health Department will partner with local dentists to provide essential dental services to residents. The fee schedule for reimbursing dental partners has been developed based on research into dental insurance providers and consultations with local dental professionals. All reimbursements will be made using the awarded grant funds.
Commissioner Van Doren added, “By increasing access to dental care for vulnerable populations, we are addressing a critical need and working toward improving long-term health outcomes through preventative medicine, which helps to lower overall healthcare costs.”
