Hunterdon County Health director provides update on transfer station operations following April 23 fire
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Health Department Director Karen DeMarco provided an update on Friday regarding the operations at the Hunterdon County Transfer Station, which were affected by a fire at the facility on April 23. The Division of Recycling and Solid Waste Services, a subunit of the Hunterdon County Department of Health, is overseeing the recovery process.
Director DeMarco assured residents that residential waste pickup across the county will continue without interruption. “The Hunterdon County Division of Recycling and Solid Waste Services is working with local haulers to redirect them to other regional waste processing facilities to ensure continuity of operations,” she stated.
For residents looking to dispose of bulk waste, the Warren County Resource Recovery Facility is open to Hunterdon County residents. The facility is located at 500 Mt. Pisgah Avenue in Oxford Township, and the same rules for bulk waste disposal that apply at the Hunterdon County Transfer Station are in effect at the Warren County facility.
Despite damage to the garbage processing area at the Transfer Station, limited residential recycling services will continue for county residents who currently use the Transfer Station for their household recycling. Recycling services will be available Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. However, household garbage, plastic bags, electronics, and hazardous waste will not be accepted.
“The County asks for the public’s continued patience as work to restore the Transfer Station progresses. Residents should be aware that the fire damage was extensive, and recovery is expected to take a long time,” DeMarco added.
For more information, residents are encouraged to contact the Hunterdon County Division of Recycling and Solid Waste Services at 908-788-1351.
