Hunterdon County honors park rangers for rescuing lost dog at Hoffman Park

HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners this week recognized two park rangers for their exceptional service in rescuing a family’s dog that had gone missing in the wooded trails of Hoffman Park.

At its June 17 meeting, the board honored Park Ranger Alex Harris and Senior Park Ranger Gary Powell for their dedication and compassion in reuniting the dog, Cosmo, with its owners.

“This story represents the very best of public service,” Commissioner Director John E. Lanza said. “Ranger Harris and Senior Ranger Powell went above and beyond their duties to help a local family. Their efforts reflect a strong sense of duty and show their outstanding dedication to protecting our parks and our communities.”

Cosmo was reported missing in May, and Harris and Powell used their knowledge of the terrain to locate the dog, who had taken shelter deep in the underbrush, officials said.

The commissioners presented proclamations to both rangers in recognition of their bravery and diligent service.

“I would like to thank Ranger Harris and Senior Ranger Powell once again for going above and beyond to bring Cosmo back home,” Lanza said. “Their dedication and kindness show just how much they care about our parks and the people who enjoy them.”
