Hunterdon County leaders participate in ShopRite’s ‘Help Bag Hunger Day’
FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl along with Commissioner John Lanza, Sheriff Fred Brown, and County Clerk Mary Melfi helped bag patrons’ groceries for the annual “Help Bag Hunger Day” at the ShopRite on Route 202/31 North, in Flemington, on Friday, Sept. 13.
The Help Bag Hunger Day event is designed to help raise awareness in the fight against hunger in local communities, and all proceeds raised are donated to the ShopRite Partners in Caring Program.
The event involved the Commissioners, and constitutional officers assisting with bagging groceries, engaging with customers, and promoting the importance of community support in addressing hunger.
“We are honored to join ShopRite in their efforts to combat hunger in our community. By participating in Help Bag Hunger Day, we hope to bring attention to the critical issue of food insecurity and encourage our residents to support local food banks. We are grateful to ShopRite for organizing this event and for their ongoing commitment to helping those in need,” Kuhl said.
Help Bag Hunger Day is a part of ShopRite’s Partners in Caring program, which has been dedicated to fighting hunger in local communities for over two decades. Established in 1999, the ShopRite Partners In Caring Program community-based initiative has supported more than 2,200 charities, and has donated more than $48 million to soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, senior citizen centers, and other organizations that are on the front lines of fighting hunger.
“Hunger affects a number of individuals in our community, and by working together to raise awareness we can help provide relief. Each time a customer purchases a product with the ShopRite Partners in Caring shelf tag, a donation is made to support the fight against hunger and helps to fill empty plates for the hungry families here in Hunterdon County,” Lanza said.
ShopRite Partners In Caring is a year-round, community-based, hunger-fighting initiative that works with more than 70 food industry manufacturers to provide $3 million annually to qualified charitable agencies in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.
