Hunterdon County man indicted on child sexual abuse material charge
TEWKSBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Hunterdon County man has been indicted on a federal charge of possessing videos and images of child sexual abuse material and has pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court, authorities said.
David Tuytjens, 70, of Tewksbury Township, was arraigned this week before U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp on a one-count indictment charging possession of child pornography, according to Senior Counsel Philip Lamparello. Tuytjens entered a plea of not guilty. He was initially charged by criminal complaint in April 2025.
According to court documents and statements made in court, officers from the New Jersey State Parole Board visited Tuytjens’ residence in December 2024 as part of supervision conditions that prohibit him from possessing internet-capable devices. Tuytjens is under Community Supervision for Life due to a prior state conviction for aggravated sexual assault.
During the visit, officers discovered multiple electronic devices, including a 64-gigabyte MicroSD storage card inside a laptop. An examination of the storage card revealed at least 800 images and 30 video files containing child sexual abuse material, authorities said. The material allegedly included images of prepubescent minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, depictions of sadistic or masochistic conduct, and sexual abuse or exploitation of an infant or toddler.
Because of Tuytjens’ prior convictions, including a federal conviction for possession of child pornography, the charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years, as well as a possible fine of up to $250,000 if convicted.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force in Newark, in coordination with the New Jersey State Parole Board and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
The case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse and to identify and rescue victims.
