Hunterdon County to announce 2025 Municipal Parks and Recreation Grant recipients Oct. 21
FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners will announce the 2025 Municipal Parks and Recreation Grant Program recipients at its upcoming meeting on October 21, 2025, where commissioners will review recommendations from an independent consultant regarding the latest round of awards.
Funded with $1 million from the County’s Open Space Fund, the program supports municipal projects that enhance local parks, green spaces, and recreational opportunities across Hunterdon County.
Launched in 2024, the initiative has drawn strong interest and positive feedback from towns eager to improve public spaces for residents. The 2025 grant cycle opened on May 12 and closed on August 29, with municipalities eligible to apply for grants of up to $100,000. Each applicant was required to provide a 25% local funding match, which could come from municipal budgets, private donations, or state and federal funding sources.
“The preservation of open space and enhancement of recreational opportunities are cornerstones of what make Hunterdon County such a special place to live,” said Commissioner Board Director John E. Lanza. “We look forward to sharing the exciting projects that will receive funding and continue to enrich our communities.”
Applications were reviewed by the Hunterdon County Division of Planning and Land Use, with support from the Hunterdon County Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee.
The October 21 Board meeting will convene at 5:00 p.m., with public action beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Township of Delaware Municipal Building, located at 570 Rosemont Ringoes Road in Sergeantsville. Members of the public are invited to attend to learn more about the awarded projects and ongoing efforts to enhance recreation and open space across the county.
