Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center installs advanced Varian TrueBeam radiotherapy system

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center has installed the state-of-the-art Varian TrueBeam® 4.1 radiotherapy system, giving physicians a new tool to treat hard-to-reach tumors with greater precision and minimal impact to surrounding healthy tissue.

The new generation linear accelerator uses high-energy photon (X-ray) or electron beams to target cancer and certain benign conditions. It incorporates real-time imaging tools and rotating components to deliver radiation from multiple angles. The system also features a six-degree treatment couch that allows for translational movements in all directions, improving accuracy, efficiency, and speed.

“We are excited and proud to bring the most advanced radiation therapy treatment system available to our patients and community. At Hunterdon Health we are committed to ensuring our patients do not have to travel far from their home to receive the latest in cutting edge technology,” said Jill Pelonero, BA, R.T. (R)(T), Director of Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center.

The technology also reduces treatment times, with some sessions lasting as little as 2 to 10 minutes. The addition of Varian’s IDENTIFY system, which uses cameras to monitor a patient’s skin surface during treatment, further enhances speed, accuracy, and safety.

Hospital officials said the upgrade provides faster treatments, better outcomes, and greater comfort for patients across the region.
