HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 14 people during immigration enforcement actions near Hackettstown last week, including two people with criminal records, according to information the Department of Homeland Security provided to RNJ.
The arrests occurred Aug. 6 during what DHS described as routine immigration enforcement actions. All 14 people arrested are being detained and are either in removal proceedings or in the process of being removed from the United States, DHS said.
According to DHS, two of those arrested had prior criminal histories.
DHS identified one as Rafael Salazar, a Dominican Republic national who the agency said had previously been arrested twice in Miami on cocaine possession charges.
The agency identified the other as Luis Rivera Guillen, a Honduran national who DHS said had prior convictions in New York for criminal mischief with intent to damage property and possession of controlled substances following arrests by Glen Cove City police.
DHS said all 14 people entered the United States illegally at unknown dates and locations.
“Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $2,600 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return,” DHS said in its statement to RNJ.
DHS did not provide additional details about the circumstances of the enforcement operation or identify the other 12 people arrested.
