JCP&L highlights programs, rebates to help customers cut summer energy costs

NEW JERSEY — As summer temperatures rise and inflation continues to strain household budgets, Jersey Central Power & Light is encouraging customers to take advantage of energy efficiency programs and rebates designed to reduce electricity use and lower monthly bills.

The utility said its energy-saving programs offer a range of options, from no-cost home energy assessments to rebates on appliances, air conditioning systems and home efficiency upgrades.

“Small steps can add up to a big difference on your electric bill over time,” said Tony Brown, Director of Energy Efficiency Programs at JCP&L and its parent company, FirstEnergy. “Our programs are designed to give customers practical tools to manage energy use and save money.”

Among the offerings is JCP&L’s no-cost Whole Home Energy Assessment program, which provides customers with an in-home review conducted by an energy advisor. Participants receive customized recommendations for improving energy efficiency and may receive free products such as LED light bulbs, smart power strips and water heater pipe insulation.

Customers who pursue larger efficiency projects through the utility’s Whole Home Energy Solutions program may qualify for rebates of up to $7500 and interest-free financing for improvements such as insulation and air sealing.

JCP&L also offers discounts through its Energy Saving Marketplace, including reduced prices on smart thermostats from brands such as Google Nest, Honeywell and Sensi. Select thermostat models are available for as little as $1, according to the company.

Additional rebates are available for customers installing qualifying energy-efficient equipment. The utility said rebates of up to $750 are offered for ductless heating and cooling systems, while central air conditioning systems may qualify for rebates of up to $200. Customers can also receive rebates on ENERGY STAR-certified appliances, including up to $100 for refrigerators and up to $40 for dehumidifiers.

Through the company’s Appliance Recycling program, customers may receive up to $100 for recycling an old working refrigerator or freezer and up to $50 for recycling a dehumidifier or room air conditioner.

JCP&L also recommends several low-cost ways to reduce energy use during the summer months, including closing curtains to block sunlight, replacing air-conditioning filters regularly and avoiding the use of heat-producing appliances during the hottest parts of the day.

According to the utility, air conditioning is typically the largest source of electricity consumption in most homes, making energy-efficient cooling practices an important way to control summer energy costs.
