Lane closures scheduled for I-78 toll bridge Express E-ZPass facility March 20-24
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has announced a series of lane closures scheduled for this week at the I-78 Toll Bridge’s two-lane Express E-ZPass toll-collection facility.
The upcoming travel restrictions are as follows:
- 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, to 5:00 a.m. Friday, March 21 – Both I-78 westbound Express E-ZPass lanes will be shut down for concrete saw-cutting work in one lane.
- 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 21 – The Express E-ZPass lane that is not being saw-cut will temporarily reopen to handle daytime I-78 westbound traffic.
- 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, March 24 – Both I-78 westbound Express E-ZPass lanes will be closed for pouring, finishing, and curing of new concrete slabs.
Weather permitting, a similar set of travel restrictions is expected the following weekend, March 27 to March 31.
These lane closures will allow a Commission contractor to install new concrete-slab pavements at the Commission’s 15-year-old Express E-ZPass facility. This highway-speed electronic open-road-tolling point is located in Williams Township, PA, and handles I-78 westbound traffic crossing the toll bridge from New Jersey into Pennsylvania.
I-78 westbound motorists are urged to keep right and reduce speeds when passing through former cash-collection lanes at the tolling point during the Express E-ZPass lane closures. Since the Commission no longer handles cash toll transactions, backups and delays—if any—are expected to be minor.
The travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors, the commission said.
