Lopatcong police use ‘cruise lights’ to increase visibility, not for emergency or traffic stops

LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Drivers in Lopatcong Township may notice patrol cars and SUVs with non-flashing red and blue lights on their rooftop light bars, commonly known as “cruise lights.”

The Lopatcong Police Department is using these lights to increase visibility and show a consistent police presence in the community.

These cruise lights are not an indication of an emergency, and drivers should not be alarmed if they see them. If you are traveling in front of a patrol vehicle with cruise lights activated, there is no need to pull over. The lights are not used for traffic stops or emergency responses. Officers will still activate standard flashing lights and sirens when performing a traffic stop or responding to an emergency situation.

For further clarification, the department has included a photo of a patrol vehicle in cruise mode (#1) and a video showing the vehicle’s standard flashing lights (#2), used specifically during traffic stops or emergencies.
