Man arrested for gas station armed robbery in Somerset County

NORTH PLAINFIELD BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in relation to an armed robbery which occurred in September of 2023 in North Plainfield Borough, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at around 4:50 a.m., officers responded to a gas station located on Route 22 for a report of an armed robbery, McDonald said.

Upon arrival, the gas station attendant reported to officers that an unknown male pulled into the gas station and asked the attendant to fill the gas tank. A few minutes later, the man exited his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the attendant demanding money, McDonald said.

The attendant turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect. The suspect warned the attendant not to say anything and then fled the area, McDonald said.

Prosecutor McDonald stated as a result of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Elijah Nunnally, 27, of Allentown.

On Oct. 5, 2023, charges of first-degree armed robbery, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon were authorized for Nunnally. It was determined that he was lodged in Lehigh County Jail on an unrelated matter, McDonald said.

On May 30, Nunnally was extradited from Pennsylvania to New Jersey by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Task Force. He was then transported to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office where he was processed on the charges and then lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, McDonald said.
