Man charged after hunting incident injures person and dog in Hunterdon County

KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Mercer County man has been charged following a hunting incident in Hunterdon County that left another hunter and a dog injured, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

NJDEP Fish and Wildlife Conservation Police charged Michael Griffis, 47, of Hamilton, with negligent use of a firearm and causing property damage in connection with the incident, which occurred Monday in Kingwood Township.

Authorities said Gerald Quarino, 70, of Columbus in Burlington County, sustained non-life-threatening injuries to the leg after being struck by birdshot pellets. Quarino’s dog was also struck by pellets during the incident.

Charges were filed in Kingwood Municipal Court, officials said.

No additional details about the incident were immediately available.
