Man charged in armed robbery of New York Jets player in Morris County
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — A Paterson man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery that occurred last year in Morristown, Morris County authorities announced.
Morris County First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally and Morristown Police Chief Darnell Richardson said Noah Shaffer, 26, was charged in connection with the Feb. 15, 2025, incident.
Morristown police responded at about 8 a.m. to a residence after receiving a report of an armed robbery. Authorities said the victim and acquaintances had returned from New York City when another vehicle blocked them into a driveway. Four masked men exited the vehicle, identified as a Volkswagen Taos bearing fictitious license plates, each carrying a handgun, and approached the victim and the driver.
Investigators said the suspects pointed handguns at the victim and took his watch and wallet. Cash was taken from the driver before the suspects fled the scene in the Volkswagen.
The investigation later revealed, through electronic evidence, that Shaffer was a participant in the incident, authorities said. The victim was a player for the New York Jets at the time of the robbery and is not being identified.
As a result of what authorities described as a thorough and cooperative investigation, Shaffer was charged Jan. 15, 2026, with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Correctional Facility on charges from an unrelated case in Passaic County and was ordered Feb. 2 to remain detained there on the Morris County charges.
Shaffer is scheduled to appear for a pre-indictment conference before Superior Court Judge Ralph E. Amirata on March 2.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional individuals may be involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200.
First Assistant Prosecutor Calderwood credited the Morristown Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit for their work on the case.
“This arrest was the result of dogged persistence on the part of our investigators at the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office MCU and Morristown Police,” Calderwood said. “Such crimes will be met with a coordinated, persistent, and effective police response until resolution.”
