WATCHUNG BOROUGH, N.J. (Somerset County) — A Union County man has been arrested and charged in connection with shots fired outside a Route 22 business in Watchung Borough earlier this year, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald announced Tuesday.
Naseem Eure, 20, of Plainfield, was taken into custody without incident on June 2 in connection with the March 17 shooting, according to Prosecutor McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Watchung Police Chief Scott Anderle.
At approximately 9:39 p.m. on March 17, Watchung police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting gunshots near a business on Route 22 West. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of gunfire, including damage to the building.
An investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Watchung detectives determined that a vehicle had approached a pedestrian walking along the sidewalk outside the business. The vehicle’s passenger door opened and a shot was fired in the direction of the individual. Multiple patrons were outside the business at the time, but no injuries were reported.
Detectives later identified Eure as the passenger who allegedly fired the shot. He was arrested in Plainfield and transported to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office for processing.
Eure has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and third-degree endangering another person. He remains in custody at the Somerset County Jail pending a court appearance.
