Washington Township police mourning loss of K9 Camo

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – The Washington Township Police Department is deeply saddened to announce the passing of K9 Camo, a dedicated and hardworking member of the force.

Camo proudly served Washington Township, Washington Borough, and Oxford Township from June 15, 2018, until his passing on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

A rescue dog, Camo overcame numerous obstacles during his K9 training, showcasing resilience and determination. Throughout his career, Camo played a crucial role in large-scale narcotics operations, resulting in significant seizures of drugs, firearms, and currency. He also assisted in numerous search-and-rescue missions, helping to reunite lost children and elderly adults with their families.

One of Camo’s favorite duties was performing demonstrations for local organizations, particularly for the Girl Scouts and during National Night Out events, where he connected with the community and showcased his skills.

The Washington Township Police Department expresses its deepest condolences to Camo’s handler, Ptl. Overko, and his family, who will feel his absence profoundly.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music.
