Mega Millions to increase ticket price to $5 in April 2025 with enhanced features, bigger jackpots

Mega Millions, the popular lottery game known for producing six record-breaking jackpots exceeding $1 billion, is set for a major transformation with a new and improved version launching in April 2025.

The upcoming changes aim to enhance player experience, featuring improved odds for winning the jackpot and larger, more frequent jackpots.

Key enhancements include a built-in multiplier for every play that can increase non-jackpot wins by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X—up to $10 million for matching all five white balls. Additionally, there will be no breakeven prizes, ensuring that every win exceeds the ticket cost.

“We are creating a game that both our existing players and newcomers will love and get excited about playing,” said Joshua Johnston, Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium. “We expect more billion-dollar jackpots than ever before, leading to the creation of more billionaires and many more millionaires.”

When the revamped game launches, tickets will be priced at $5 per play—only the second price adjustment in over 20 years and the first since the game matrix was last updated in 2017.

Since its inception in 2002, Mega Millions has generated six billion-dollar jackpot winners and has made over 1,200 millionaires since the last format change in 2017, averaging three new millionaires each week.

Mega Millions tickets are available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with drawings held every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time in Atlanta, Georgia. Lottery profits support various good causes, allocated differently across jurisdictions.
