Man charged with DUI after construction worker struck on I-80 in Morris County

MOUNT ARLINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — A New York City man was charged with drunken driving and assault by auto after authorities said he struck two vehicles and a construction worker in a work zone on Interstate 80 in Morris County early Saturday.

New Jersey State Police said troopers responded to the crash at 12:33 a.m. on Interstate 80 west near milepost 33 in Mount Arlington Borough.

According to a preliminary investigation, Jose Cadafi, 31, of New York City, was driving an Acura SUV westbound on Interstate 80 when the vehicle entered a construction zone and struck a Kia SUV and a Honda SUV.

Police said the Acura then continued through the work zone and struck a construction worker who was on foot inside the area.

The worker suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.

State police said investigators later determined Cadafi was under the influence at the time of the crash.

Cadafi was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault by auto, obstruction, driving under the influence and additional motor vehicle offenses.

He was lodged in the Morris County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to state police.
