Warren County honors volunteer Irene Howell with 2026 Outstanding Volunteer Award
WHITE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — Warren County officials honored local volunteers during a reception April 24, presenting the 2026 Outstanding Volunteer Award to Irene Howell for her contributions to parks, recreation and history programs.
The event, held at the Richard D. Gardner Branch of the Warren County Library, recognized volunteers for their service and coincided with National Volunteer Month.
“Our county would not be what it is without the expertise, advice, and hard work of so many volunteers,” Commissioner Director Lori Ciesla said, adding, “That is why recognizing these dedicated individuals is so important.”
Ciesla and Commissioner James R. Kern III attended the reception to thank volunteers, present a Volunteer Month proclamation adopted April 21, and honor Howell for her longstanding service.
A Washington Township resident, Howell has volunteered for more than 20 years with the Friends of Shippen and at Shippen Manor Museum in Oxford. Since 2003, she has shared her knowledge of local mining, industry and the history of the circa-1754 Shippen Manor with visitors.
County officials said all volunteers in attendance received certificates of appreciation.
Volunteer Month highlights the contributions of individuals who serve their communities and aims to encourage broader participation in volunteer efforts. Officials said volunteers play a vital role in strengthening communities and improving quality of life across Warren County.
The Board of County Commissioners encouraged residents to recognize and thank volunteers for their continued service.
