Man charged with DUI after reportedly asleep at wheel in Morris County, police say

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Rockaway man was charged with driving under the influence following a traffic incident in Denville Township, authorities said.

Denville police responded at about 9:42 p.m. Jan. 28 to the area of Pocono Road after receiving a report of a driver sleeping behind the steering wheel in a lane of travel, police said.

During the investigation, officers identified the driver as Jesus A. Ruizhernandez, 41, of Rockaway, and determined he had been operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Ruizhernandez was taken into custody and transported to Denville Police Headquarters for processing.

Police said Ruizhernandez was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses, including driving while under the influence, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to use required lighting, driving while license suspended, delaying traffic and failure to observe a traffic control device.

He was later released pending a future court appearance in Denville Municipal Court.
