Man charged with DWI, assault by auto after crash involving Denville police vehicle

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man is facing multiple charges after being involved in a crash with a Denville Township police vehicle.

On Wednesday, March 12, at around 3:30 p.m., police responded to Cooper Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a Denville Township police vehicle, authorities said.

During the investigation, Steven Vasquez, 48, of Denville Township, was allegedly under the influence and arrested, police said.

Vasquez was charged with assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated within 1,000 feet of a school, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, open container in a motor vehicle, delaying traffic, and obstructing the passage of other vehicles. He was then released pending a court appearance, police said.
