Man charged with theft, shoplifting from Hackettstown liquor store

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — A Hackettstown man has been charged with theft and shoplifting after police say he took beer and cash from the liquor store where he worked.

On Aug. 8, Hackettstown police responded to ShopRite Liquors at 80 Main St. for a report of a shoplifting incident that occurred between Aug. 5 and Aug. 6.

Police said the store manager reported that an employee was seen on surveillance video walking out with a six-pack of beer and $200 in cash.

A review of the footage showed the suspect, identified as Ryan Ford, 45, returning to the store twice — taking the beer on the first visit and accessing the store safe before leaving on the second visit, police said.

Ford was arrested Aug. 9 and charged with theft by unlawful taking and shoplifting. He was released pending a court appearance.
