Man subdued with CED, charged after disturbance at Oxford Township Municipal Building, police say

OXFORD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A 46-year-old man was taken into custody on Nov. 26 after police said he allegedly became combative inside the Oxford Township Municipal Building and refused to comply with officers’ commands, leading officers to deploy a Conducted Energy Device.

Washington Township police said officers were dispatched around 8:20 a.m. for a report of a suspicious man inside the municipal building. According to police, the man was located and was exhibiting an altered mental status. Officers asked him to walk outside so he could receive further assistance, but he allegedly refused repeated requests.

As officers escorted him through the lobby, police said he became combative and resisted attempts to place him in handcuffs. A Conducted Energy Device was used to gain control of his arms and take him into custody, police said.

The man — whose name police did not release — was transported to a medical facility as a precaution and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He later received a summons for disorderly conduct, which requires a mandatory court appearance.
