Mansfield police warn of scam calls impersonating Verizon, Valley Bank
MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — The Mansfield Township Police Department is warning residents to be on the lookout for scam phone calls in which callers impersonate well-known companies to obtain personal information.
According to police, scammers have been posing as companies including Verizon and Valley Bank, claiming there is a problem with a customer’s account and requesting personal information.
Police said the scammers have gone so far as to create a fake Verizon website while using caller ID to display Valley Bank’s name with a different phone number in an effort to appear legitimate.
Residents who receive suspicious calls are advised to hang up immediately and contact the company directly using a phone number they know is legitimate rather than any number provided by the caller.
