Morris County correctional officer recruits graduate from Essex County Police Academy
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Ten recruits from the Morris County Correctional Facility have graduated from the Essex County Police Academy following nearly five months of training, officials said.
Sheriff James M. Gannon and the correctional facility administration recognized the members of County Corrections Police Officer Class 25-3, who completed the academy program and graduated April 22.
The recruits began training Dec. 12, 2025, and completed 19 weeks of instruction that included physical conditioning, classroom work, unarmed defense, first responder and CPR certification, firearms training and other specialized coursework.
The newly graduated officers are Vincent Barba, Cameron Bascomb, Keegan Carvajal, John Coleman, Corey Dempster, Kenny Elysee, Shaquille Gould, Jacob Nelson, Destiny Neuberger and David VanWinkle. Barba received the firearms award.
The graduation ceremony was held at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark, where family members, friends and academy staff gathered to mark the achievement.
Officials extended congratulations to the graduates as they begin their careers serving Morris County.
