Morris County man accused of taking car and stealing, using credit cards
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man is accused of taking a car and stealing, using credit cards in Mount Olive Township.
On June 6, a victim came into Mount Olive Township Police Headquarters to report that a vehicle belonging to his family member was missing. The blue BMW had been parked in a parking lot in Overlook Apartments and was no longer in the lot, police said.
The victim further reported that there was fraudulent activity on his credit card along with a card belonging to the owner of the vehicle. Both cards were located in a wallet which was also missing, police said.
Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the credit cards were used to make multiple purchases at Walmart in Flanders and Advance Auto Parts in Budd Lake, police said.
Detectives were able to determine that the credit cards were used by a male who was identified as Adam Tripp, 35, of Flanders. Detectives went to his residence but were unable to locate him or the vehicle, police said.
On June 10, Tripp was seen arriving at the municipal building driving a silver Ford Escape. As he entered the building he was arrested by detectives. A search of Tripp’s person produced the stolen credit cards, police said.
It was further learned that Tripp had purchased the Ford he was driving at a dealership in Jefferson Township. Jefferson police responded to the dealership and located the stolen BMW parked nearby, police said.
Tripp was charged with theft of a credit card, use of a stolen credit card, and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
