Morris County man charged with murder in New Milford stabbing

NEW MILFORD, N.J. (Bergen County) — A Morris County man has been charged with murder after police say he fatally stabbed another man inside a Bergen County home early Thursday.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said 25-year-old Justin J. Wilhelm of Landing was arrested on charges of homicide, weapons offenses, and narcotics possession following the killing of 24-year-old Mateo Ocho-Gonzalez of New Milford.

Authorities said Wilhelm himself placed a 911 call around 2:58 a.m. from a residence at 650 River Road. When officers arrived, they found him on the front steps with suspected blood on his hands. Police entered the home and discovered Ocho-Gonzalez on the second floor with multiple stab wounds to his chest and neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators allege Wilhelm possessed narcotics and stabbed Ocho-Gonzalez multiple times while inside the residence. He was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and remains in custody.

Wilhelm is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, third-degree possession of narcotics, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Prosecutor Musella thanked the New Milford Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
