Morris County supervising assistant prosecutor honored with Criminal Practice Award

FLORHAM PARK BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — A Morris County prosecutor has been recognized for her contributions to the legal profession with a prestigious award from the Morris County Bar Association.

Supervising Assistant Prosecutor LaJuan Tucker received the Criminal Practice Award during the Morris County Bar Association’s Installation & Awards Dinner held April 16 at the Brooklake Country Club.

The award is presented annually to an attorney who demonstrates service to the profession, professionalism and a commitment to fostering relationships between attorneys and the judiciary.

Tucker, who has served as an assistant prosecutor since 2002, currently leads the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office units overseeing pretrial services, diversion and firearms regulations. Over her career, she has held multiple roles, including trial team member and supervisor of the Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit.

In 2010, Tucker established the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office’s first mental health program, designed to divert eligible individuals from incarceration and provide treatment as a condition of probation. In recent years, she has helped expand the Mental Health and Veterans Diversion Program, working with the judiciary and the Mental Health Association to route eligible individuals toward services rather than jail.

She also oversees Recovery Court, which provides alternatives to incarceration for nonviolent, drug-dependent defendants.

Tucker has been active in the broader legal community, serving as chair of the Morris County Bar Association’s Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Committee and as a member of the Morris County Mental Health Substance Abuse Advisory Board. She also serves as a mental health liaison to the state Attorney General’s Office.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said, “SAP Tucker always displays professionalism in the courtroom, and she is highly respected by judges, defense attorneys, and her co-workers alike. She has developed meaningful relationships with Morris County criminal practitioners, especially in the mental health diversion field, and has demonstrated her commitment to the administration of justice.”
