Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center earn consistent ‘A’ grades from Leapfrog Group

National safety grades reflect commitment to quality

NEW JERSEY – Two of Atlantic Health System’s hospitals, Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center, earned ‘A’ grades from The Leapfrog Group in its Fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grades.

Each of the two hospitals has earned top marks for consecutive scoring periods. Morristown Medical Center has maintained an ‘A’ Grade since Fall 2015 and Overlook Medical Center has been a consistent ‘A’ since Spring 2021.

“The consistent recognition of multiple A grades from Leapfrog is a clear reflection of our commitment to safety and quality,” said Scott Leighty, Executive Vice President and Chief Health System Officer, Atlantic Health System. “That commitment is central to the way our physicians, nurses and team members at Morristown and Overlook deliver exceptional care for our patients and their loved ones.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center, their leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
