Two Hunterdon County residents arrested after stolen U-Haul van uncovers forgery and trafficking in personal identifying information
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Two Hunterdon County residents were arrested after a reported stolen U-Haul van led to the discovery of alleged forgery and trafficking in personal identifying information, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson.
Peter M. Gittens, 37, and Chambreona J. Williams, a.k.a. Tenisha O. Gittens, 33, both of Raritan Township, were charged with multiple offenses, including forgery, trafficking in personal identifying information, theft of a motor vehicle, theft of movable property, unlawful possession of a firearm, and endangering the welfare of a child, among several others.
In January 2025, the Raritan Township Police Department received information about a stolen U-Haul van. A comprehensive investigation identified Gittens and Williams as the possessors of the van. Authorities say Williams fraudulently obtained the van from U-Haul and that both she and Gittens leased apartment units in Raritan Township using false identities, Robeson said.
On April 4, the Clinton Township Police Department detained the defendants during a traffic stop. Following the stop, Raritan Township Police arrested the individuals and later executed a search warrant for their residences and vehicle. During the search, police discovered Williams’ five- and two-year-old children left unsupervised in her apartment, Robeson said.
The investigation uncovered numerous forms of false identification, fraudulently obtained or manufactured credit cards, over $75,000 in stolen U.S. Treasury checks, an illegal credit card skimming device, an unregistered handgun—which Gittens was prohibited from possessing due to a prior conviction—large-capacity ammunition magazines, and two stolen cockapoo dogs, Robeson said.
On April 11, Williams was released onto pretrial monitoring following a detention hearing. She is scheduled to appear for a pre-indictment hearing before the Honorable Christopher J. Garrenger, J.S.C., on May 19. She is represented by Yoana Yakova, Esq., Robeson said.
On April 14, the Honorable Peter J. Tober, P.J.S.C., ordered Gittens detained pending trial. He is being held at the Warren County Jail and is scheduled to appear for a pre-indictment event before Judge Garrenger on May 12. He is represented by Daniel G.P. Marchese, Esq., Robeson said.
