Eamon Leighty named superintendent of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

DELAWARE WATER GAP NATIONAL RECREATION AREA — Eamon Leighty has been selected as the new superintendent of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, park officials announced.

Leighty has served as deputy superintendent at the park since 2021 and has been acting superintendent since March 2025. In his role, he has overseen park operations, capital projects, facility management, emergency response and community engagement.

Officials said Leighty brings a range of experience in public service and infrastructure management to the position.

Before joining the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Leighty worked as deputy chief of maintenance for operations at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. His prior experience also includes roles with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, the Township of Freehold and the U.S. Postal Service.

Leighty holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology and a master’s degree in critical infrastructure systems from the Newark College of Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Park officials welcomed Leighty into his new leadership role overseeing one of the region’s most visited national recreation areas.
