Morristown Medical Center ranked No. 1 hospital in New Jersey by Newsweek for 2026

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center has been named the No. 1 hospital in New Jersey on Newsweek’s 2026 America’s Best-in-State Hospitals list. The annual ranking highlights hospitals nationwide that demonstrate outstanding clinical excellence, patient care, and innovation.

According to Newsweek, “When facing a serious health condition, one of the most important choices a patient can make is which hospital to trust. The hospital you select can influence outcomes, the quality of your experience, and your path to recovery.”

The publication, in partnership with global data intelligence firm Statista, analyzed more than 6,000 hospitals across the United States to identify 800 top-performing facilities across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

This year’s methodology placed a greater emphasis on hospital quality metrics and patient-reported outcomes. Rankings were based on four primary factors: quality metrics (50 percent), reputation (30 percent), patient experience (15 percent), and implementation of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (5 percent).

Quality data was sourced from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicare Fee-for-Service claims via Arcadia, the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey, and accreditation organizations such as The Joint Commission and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

In a statement, Atlantic Health said: “This recognition reflects the dedication of our incredible physicians, nurses, and team members who deliver exceptional care and compassion every day.”

Atlantic Health’s Overlook Medical Center was also recognized, ranking No. 5 in New Jersey.
