N.J. Senate backs bill to waive specialty license plate fees for firefighters and rescue squad members

TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Senate has approved legislation that would eliminate fees for specialty license plates issued to firefighters and members of first aid or rescue squads, according to the bill’s sponsors.

The measure, S-3366/A-4284, would remove the $15 fee charged by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission for the special plates. Supporters said the plates are a symbol of pride and service for first responders.

“We are honored to advance legislation that provides meaningful financial relief to our brave firefighters and first responders, enabling them to display their dedication with pride,” said Sen. Anthony M. Bucco. “Eliminating this fee reflects our unwavering support and deep appreciation for the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe.”

“First responders put their lives on the line every day, often as volunteers, to ensure the safety and well-being of others,” said Sen. Kristin Corrado. “Removing this financial burden is a small but important way we can show our gratitude for their dedication and service.”
