Newton man killed in multi-vehicle crash in Passaic County

CLIFTON, NJ (Passaic County) – A Newton man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Passaic County on Wednesday morning, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

The crash occurred on March 12 at approximately 11:39 a.m. in the area of Getty Avenue and Crooks Avenue in Clifton, Valdes said.

Officers determined that a Chevy Trailblazer, operated by a 35-year-old woman from Madison Borough, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a Honda Civic and a Dodge Ram truck. As the Chevy Trailblazer continued down Getty Avenue, it also struck a Toyota RAV4 and a Volkswagen Jetta, Valdes said.

The driver of the Honda Civic, a 52-year-old man from Newton, was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Valdes said.

The surviving victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Despite initial information suggesting that a pedestrian was killed, further investigation revealed that no pedestrians were injured as a result of the motor vehicle collision, Valdes said.

The cause of the crash is undetermined at this time. The investigation is active and ongoing. More information will be released when it becomes available, Valdes said.
