
NJ State Police arrest suspect after man shot multiple times, 2 dogs killed in Sussex County
WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – The New Jersey State Police have arrested a suspect after police found a man shot multiple times and two dead dogs in a Sussex County home, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Charles Marchan.
Troopers responded to a shooting incident on Monday, Jan. 22 at 4:51 p.m. at a single-family residence on County Route 628 in Wantage Township, Marchan said.
Upon troopers’ arrival, they located Donald Simpson, 70, of Wantage Township in the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Two deceased dogs were also located with gunshot wounds, Marchan said.
The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, Marchan said.
Through various investigative means, troopers located the suspect, who was identified as Daniel Simpson, 34, of Wantage Township, and he was arrested without incident. Troopers additionally located a firearm in the area, Marchan said.
State police did not state the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Daniel Simpson was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Marchan said.
This is an active investigation and no additional was information available, Marchan said.
